Thanks to everyone who came out of the woodwork to show their support during Dictatorship of the Dress’ release week! Friends, family, readers, reviewers, bloggers, librarians – I cannot begin to express what your feedback means to me.

Writing a book is a little like being stranded on a deserted island. You spend a lot of time alone, with just your mind as company, staring out at the (limitless) horizon. Hygiene becomes an afterthought. Basic human needs, the priority. Eat. Sleep. Write.

Some nights you stomp crazy fire dances in victory under the stars, other nights you send up desperate S.O.S. smoke symbols. You doubt yourself, your existence. Just when you think no one will ever discover you, a bottle washes up on the shore. And then another. And another.

It’s release day!

Messages begin arriving. In the form of a review, or a friend congratulating you on a job well done. Suddenly the rescue boat has anchored, and it’s a non-stop party, all hands on deck, champagne for all! You smile, a bit dazed, accept the hugs, the high-fives, the pats on the back. No one really knows what you’ve been through, but that’s okay, you’ve made it to the other side. Victory! A shower! Time to re-join civilization, become a responsible member of society.

Until the next big idea completely capsizes you, sending you tumbling back onto that island. Because watching those bottles roll in? It’s a feeling like no other.
